Level 3 Security Guard

A psychological evaluation is necessary in New Mexico for the Level 3 clearance process. I often get panicky phone calls that go something like this, "I need to get a psych eval for my level 3 security guard clearance and I need it ASAP! Can you see me?

It feels great to say, "I can get you in next week."

The Level 3 psychological assessment will consider your mental fitness to handle the responsibilities and pressures associated with carrying a firearm and performing security duties.

Please Note: You must schedule your evaluation with a psychologist who is licensed by the state of New Mexico.

We'll start with a Clinical Interview:

  • As a clinical psychologist, I will begin your assessment for Level 3 security guard with a structured clinical interview to gather information about your personal history, work experience, and reasons for pursuing a Level 3 clearance.

  • Behavioral Observations: During the interview, I will document your behavior, communication skills, and emotional responses.

Next, you'll complete a Psychological Test:

The state of New Mexico requires that we administer the standardized personality test, known as the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI). This test helps identify personality traits, emotional functioning, and potential mental health issues.

Finally the Report

The report that I will forward to the Board will summarize my risk assessment. I'm including a

copy of the form to help you understand the protocol and what I will be sending them.

Preparing for the Psychological Evaluation

Understand the Process:

  • Understanding the purpose and format of the evaluation can help reduce anxiety.

  • Be Honest and Open: Answer all questions truthfully. Attempting to manipulate the results or hide information can negatively impact your evaluation.

  • Reflect on Your Experiences: Think about past experiences where you successfully managed stress or resolved conflicts. Being able to discuss these situations can demonstrate your emotional resilience.

  • Get Adequate Rest: Ensure you are well-rested before the evaluation. Fatigue can affect your cognitive performance and overall demeanor.

What to Expect During the Evaluation

  • Duration: The psychological evaluation usually takes three hours to complete, including both the interview and the MMPI test.

  • Setting: The evaluation takes place in my office, in a quiet and controlled environment.

  • Feedback: After completing the evaluation, I will provide immediate feedback to discuss the results.

After the Evaluation

  • Submission to Licensing Authority: The report will be submitted to the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department as part of your application for Level 3 clearance.

  • Follow-Up: In rare cases, the licensing authority may request additional information or a follow-up evaluation based on the recommendations.

The psychological evaluation is a thorough and essential step in obtaining a Level 3 Security Guard clearance in New Mexico. By understanding the process and preparing adequately, you can approach the evaluation with confidence. This assessment not only ensures your suitability for the role but also promotes the overall safety and professionalism of the security industry.
